Maggie Segale was born in New Jersey in 1991. She is a choreographer, dancer, writer, filmmaker, and teacher currently earning an MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (expected 2026). Maggie earned a BFA from The Juilliard School in 2014, and a graduate certificate in Critical Theory and Philosophy from Maumaus Independent Study Program in Lisbon, Portugal in 2022. Her choreography and performances have earned critical acclaim as in the prominent German Art Magazine Texte zur Kunst, and the film entitled Maggie’s Solo, which she choreographed in conjunction with long-time collaborator Cally Spooner has been editioned and screened in prominent art institutions globally. Maggie has performed and presented choreography in such venues at Lincoln Center, Centre National de Danse de Paris, Art Institute of Chicago, Ludwig Forum Köln, Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, and Judson Memorial Church. Maggie currently teaches in the Dance Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is choreographing a new work for dance and sculpture to premiere in March 2026.
